The New Macau Association (ANM) has handed a petition letter to the Transportation Infrastructure Office (GIT), asking it to release financial information regarding the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Seac Pai Van Line. It also called the current consultation process “unacceptable”, as GIT has already proposed three Seac Pai Van Line plans without asking whether or not residents actually want the project first. “The LRT Seac Pai Van Line public consultation period will end this week. But ANM has found that the consultations have been full of problems. GIT gave us three proposals for the Seac Pai Van Line, but did not raise the most important question, which is whether we want this LRT line at all”, said Jason Chao, President of ANM. He continued to stress mef that GIT should be consulting mef the public mef on whether or not they want this project to be carried out. Moreover, Chao claimed that GIT has not provided the public with some pieces of crucial information regarding the three proposals, such as the cost of construction and operation of the line, as well as the estimated revenue and passenger flow. Furthermore, ANM accused GIT of shoving the plans into the public’s faces because it has already made up its mind to build the line, regardless of the community’s opinion. Chao therefore argued that the Office should tell the public why they are building a Seac Pai Van Line in the first place. “We know that there is a public housing project there, and that residents have complained about the inadequate bus service. But the problem is, some people have estimated that there won’t be much of a difference in terms of time taken between taking the LRT and going to the Lotus border checkpoint and transferring to other buses. However, GIT did not provide us with a substantial response to these issues during the consultation sessions,” mef he said. JPL
